Powder Injection Molding (PIM)

|
|
PIM - powder injection molding - stands for the injection molding process used to manufacture metallic (MIM) or ceramic (CIM) parts.
Main characteristics and know-how: - cost-efficient manufacturing for:
- complex and highly integrated parts
- high output volume
- high quality level assurance
- fully automated production process
Together with highly skilled partners, Battenfeld offers a complete PIM molding package, including machinery and test runs. |
Powder injection molding is a multi-stage process:
- compounding of feedstock from powder and binder system with a maximum powder content of approx. 60 % by volume
- molding of the so called "green parts"
- thermal or chemical-catalytic removal of the binder system for the "brown parts"
- sintering of "brown parts" to get the final product (12 % to 20 % shrinkage occurs)

Battenfeld offers two different machine configurations to start PIM processing: PIMbasic and PIMadvanced
Components:
- special wear resistant screws and barrels adapted to the powder used
- special screw geometries
- temperature controlled feed throat
- special hopper
- tailored automation solutions (option)
