Back molding

Back molding is used with decorated films or with fabrics.

Major advantages:

  • wide range of design options
  • high surface quality
  • many decoration options
  • fast changeover of decorative patterns
  • integration of functions
  • less post-processing steps
  • ready-to-assemble parts

  • InMold Decoration (IMD):

    • decoration pattern is bonded to a special carrier film
    • during molding, the decoration pattern is released from the carrier film and attached to the part surface
  • InMold Labeling (IML):

    • back molding of plain thermoformed film
    • film is fixed to the mold either mechanically, by electrostatic or by vacuum
  • Back molding of fabrics:

    • insertion of textile into the mold
    • cascade-type injection process using hot runner shut-off nozzles or injection compression

Back molding processes are used for the production of ready-to-assemble molded parts. Machines are equipped with special control options.

Major characteristics:

  • highly automated production systems
  • cascade-type control
  • multiple injection compression options
  • programming of special control sequences possible
